Danang
Danang is Vietnam’s fourth-largest city, situated in the central region. Encircled with world cultural heritage sites in Hue and Hoi An (My Son), Danang is often referred as ‘Saigon of the North’. The reason of this cliché is simply because it is the deep-sea port city in the middle of the country that serevs as the economic hub between the north and the south. The scenic view of the city’s two grandiose bridges, Song Han Bridge and Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, indicates well of the booming economy of this seaside town.

Geographically, Danang marks the end of the tropical zone in the north and offers a pleasant year-round climate. Its town is situated on the west bank of the Han River in parallel with the long, thin seaside land strip on the eastern side. Up in the northern end of the east bank are Tien Sa Port and Monkey Mountain while the northern end of the west bank is the Bay of Danang with Thanh Binh Beach and Nam O Beach embracing the west of the bay.

The sea is good for swimming all year round especially in summer from May to August because of the mild wave, the water temperature and the safeguard team that works from 5am to 8pm every day to ensure safety for tourists. Other activities here are fishing, water-skiing, diving and yacht race. Most beaches are easily accessible by means of transport.

Apart from beaches, Danang also boasts other kinds of tourist attractions: Danang Cathedral, Caodai Temple, Tam Bao Pagoda, Pho Da Pagoda, Cham Museum, Hai Van Pass and Marble Mountain

Attractions

Nam O Beach

Nam O beach is located 17 km northwest of Danang city. From Nam O beach, one can ride a boat westwards on Cu De river as an ecological tour to visit minority people in Hoa Bac, Hoa Vang district.

Bac My An Beach or China Beach

Bac My An Beach or China Beach is located 7 km southeast of Danang City. It is also known as China Beach. At the further end of this beach is Danang’s finest resort of the town Furama Resort. However, there is also a wide range of accommodations for all kind of tourists.

My Khe Beach

The 900-meter long My Khe beach is the most crowded beach and popular among local people. American soldiers occupied a part of the beach before 1975. They established some premises for their relaxation and recreations. Now the beach is more equipped with convenient facilities including fresh water bath service, sunshade, restaurants, luxurious seaside villas, resorts and hotels. It is also easily accessible from the west bank via Song Han Bridge.

Hai Van Pass

Hai Van is the highest pass in the country and the last spur of the Truong Son Range that reaches to the sea. One of the Vietnamese scholar in the 17th century described that Hai Van has its foot standing in the sea and its summit covered with clouds. The pass also acts as a borderline between Thuan Hoa and Quang Nam provinces.

On the top of the pass are the vestiges of a fortified gateway that is now covered with moss. The gate facing to Thua Thien province is inscribed with the three words “Hai Van gate” and the other gate looking down on Quang Nam province is engraved “the most grandiose gateway in the world”.

Hai Van means winds and clouds. Winds like a herd of horses galloping a number of miles, clouds like pouring from heaven. On the summit of Hai Van pass, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Danang city, Tien Sa port, Son Tra peninsular and long white sandy beach.
